Study for profitable digital businesses and finance operators

Which revenue number do you trust when your systems disagree?

This study reconstructs one recent revenue period across the systems that recorded orders, subscriptions, charges, refunds, payouts, or accounting entries. The result is a fixed revenue close artifact, not a new bookkeeping system.

Recent event

What must have happened

A revenue close, payout reconciliation, refund discrepancy, or conflicting total must have affected a real financial or operating decision within the past 90 days.

  • Reconciled conflicting revenue or payout totals.
  • Resolved a refund, discount, proration, comp, or failed payment discrepancy.
  • Used the result to make or defend a real financial or operating decision.

Operating business

The workflow must already be in use and affect a real decision

The business or workflow must already be in use, have repeated activity, and affect a real decision. You should also be able to describe what you tried and what remained unresolved.

The business must already collect revenue regularly and have a real close or reconciliation process.

  • Time in operation and reconciliation frequency can be estimated.
  • Approximate monthly collected revenue and transaction ranges are available.
  • You can describe the relevant revenue systems and recent discrepancies.

This is not for prototypes, hypothetical situations, or people without firsthand involvement in the event.

Who we're interviewing in this round

US business context is required

The participant must currently work in the United States or own or manage a US-based business, and the qualifying event must have involved US operations, customers, revenue, or budget.

Separate commissioned study

Revenue Close and Leakage Audit

$750

Within three business days of receiving usable data, you receive:

  1. 01A reconciled revenue view for one agreed period.
  2. 02A source hierarchy showing which records support each number.
  3. 03Identified discrepancies, unresolved items, and excluded amounts.
  4. 04Refund, failure, payout, and concentration observations supported by the data.
  5. 05A repeatable close checklist for the next period.

This is an operational evidence artifact, not tax advice, audited financial statements, or ongoing accounting. If the supplied data cannot support the agreed close, the fee is refunded.

This is optional paid work after the interview. We would agree on the scope and required records before it begins.

If you later commission a study

We’ll agree on the minimum records before any work begins

Normally required for a period of 30 or 90 days:

  • Payment processor transactions, invoices, refunds, and payouts.
  • Platform orders, subscriptions, or customer lifecycle exports.
  • The current close spreadsheet or accounting summary.
  • A written description of the discrepancy or decision.

Only the minimum agreed period and fields are requested.

After the commissioned study

I’ll ask what changed

Seven days later, I ask whether the artifact changed a close, cash, channel, cost, or concentration decision and whether the same reconciliation is needed next period.
